About Patrick Sanford

First drawn to the San Diego surf culture, surf photography and the ocean quickly became a passion for Patrick. His main goal as a landscape photographer is to capture and portray the essence and spirit of the environment.

Artist Statement

"Growing up in Southern California I have always been drawn to the coast and constantly changing environment. I have been shooting since film but after graduating San Diego State with degrees in both painting and photography, I stumbled into [digital] surf / landscape photography and became immediately hooked on not only the act of surfing but also the culture, and natural environment that the surrounded it.  This quickly became the perfect foundation for my photography. 

I now spend most of my time exploring nature and travel destinations looking for imagery that captures the spirit of environment with the goal to create fine art images that motivate and inspire. When shooting, finding compelling compositions is always the driving force behind my photography. Looking for unique vantage points that places the viewer into the image and hopefully elicits the same feeling of when the photo was shot. 

I have been fortunate to have been able to travel to across the country, to several countries in Europe and have spent some time in Iceland during the dead of winter shooting the southern coastline. Surveying the available light and how it interacts with the people and places provides a constant motivation.  Over the past several years, I have broadened my photography to contemporary portraits, and capturing those attaining their fitness goals."
